DrawThisApp is free tool for iPad to learn how to draw. It also serves as a fun time pass for kids and an interactive way to learn. Filled up with tons of drawings to learn from and also various modes to enhance your skills, this application is a step by step guide to learn the art of drawing. From the basic mathematical shapes to faces, cartoons etc. this application has it all.
Although it sounds from the description that application is meant for kids alone but trying a hand on it was an eye opener for me. The application rates your drawing out of 100 and you are given marks according to the mode you are in.
Usage:
The application has 4 modes to try from which are as follows:
Practice:
This mode has a dotted drawing already over which you have to draw with a marker. This will help you in gaining expertise over a particular type of drawing.
Copy:
In this mode you have to copy a given drawing. Though some crosses are used to help you but unfortunately they create further confusion for the first time you are using them. Copy mode also carries rating out of 100 for the drawing you drew.
Mirror:
Mirror is a mode in which you have to create the mirror image of the drawing you choose. This also has a 100 points rating scale. This is a pretty challenging mode.
Trial:
Trial mode is probably the toughest one. In trial mode you are shown the drawing just for the first time at each step. After that you are on your own. It is like a pro level of the app.
Extra Features:
- You can choose amongst right handed app or left handed app from the settings according to your preferences.
- There is an ability to change the colour of the pen you are using from the settings.
- There are a number of categories like Primitives, Face, Cartoon Faces, Female Faces, Male Faces, Cartoon hands and so on and each of the modes have multiple drawings within it.
- The application also shows how many times a particular drawing has been tried by you and also the maximum accuracy level achieved by you in that.
- You can also buy more faces and drawings via in-app purchases.
Final Verdict:
If you are a child then you’ll definitely fall for this app, if you aren’t, this app will simply bring out the child in you. I was unable to stop myself from trying a drawing multiple times. Also, for the people who are budding talents in drawing, this application can be pretty handy as well.
