Google News Reader is a free Windows 8 Google News App. It will let you read news from Google News, which is one of the most popular aggregator of news. News are available from most of the countries in the world, including: US, UK, Canada, Australia, Deutschland, and India. You can view news from categories like Entertainment, Business, Technology, and various others. This Windows 8 app is basically a desktop client for Google News.
Moreover, there is also an option to personalize the news. There, you can mention the categories from where you want to receive news from. The app also gives an option to share the news with others. The app also gives you the ability to view the time, which otherwise is not available in Windows 8 start screen.
Google News Reader is freely available in the News & Weather category of the Windows store.
Using this free Windows 8 Google News App:
As you get into the app, all the news will appear in front of you as tiles.
From the bottom menu that is given, you can choose the country from where you want to get news from.
As you choose the country from the bottom menu, all the news from that country will appear in front of you.
Choose the categories to get news from
This app has option to select the category from which you want to get news from. You can choose to get news from Business, Technology, Sports, Science, Health, and many others. For that, you can use the the top menu that is available on the main screen.
Selecting these two options from the top and bottom menu, you will be able to get news according to your choice.
The news that you choose to view will open up in the app itself. It would be the same Web based version.
Now, one more feature I would like to talk about here is the option of this Google News app to allow the user to personalize news for him. For that, you can use the last option in the bottom menu named My Edition.
As you click on that option, a new screen will appear where you can mention the topics you like to get news from. As you keep on adding the topics, they will add up for your personalized view. Now, you just have to use the back arrow that is given in the app to return to the main home page of the app, and your personalized settings are saved. From now on, if you want to see the news for which you have personalized the app, you can use the My Edition option given in the bottom menu. The option will show all your personalized news.
Also check Google Reader Free, Bookmarks of Google, and News360.
My verdict About This Google News App for Windows 8:
Everything is alright with this Windows 8 News Reader app, except the fact that it has no option to search for any news. Also, there is no option to get news from other countries that are not present here by default.
