SkilledUp is a free service to search for online study content, like: courses, lectures, articles, books, etc.
For rapidly growing community of online self learners, SkilledUp is a very good utility. It can find content for various fields, such as: Marketing, Programming, Science, Math, Writing, and a lot more. You can also use various filters on the search results to find the relevant content easily.
SkilledUp lets you search for both paid and free online study content. You may also find some handsome deals on SkilledUp to get discounts from content providers.
You can even register your email to get free subscription of the latest updates and additions on subjects selected by you.
However, unlike other similar services (Redhoop and CourseBuffet), SkilledUp does not lets you add courses to your account to track their progress. But it does provides additional search options, to search for lectures, articles, etc.; which other similar services lack. Also, it features videos in their Learning Hubs section, which group videos related to a skill together.
Major shortcoming of this service is that “Free Books” mentioned on the site are not actually free. I saw a couple of books that were mentioned as “Free” in the price column on SkilledUp. But when I proceeded with the available link to check them, the books were actually paid. The price of other books and courses was in line with what actually original content providers charge on their website.
Using SkilledUp to Find Online Study Content:
- You can follow the link available at the end of this review to reach the homepage of SkilledUp. You get the search column on the homepage, just enter the subject (or topic) that you are looking for, and click on “Go”.
- Search result will list all the available contents, like: Courses, Books, Lectures, etc. relevant to the searched topic. List will mention the content name with its details, like: content provider, level , brief description, price, etc. You might find the content in the search result a little messy in the beginning.
- Now, you can use the available filters to easily find the content.
- Click on the content that you want to study and you’ll reach the course detail page. Here, you may also find some deals to get discount from the content providers.
- Click on “Go to Course” button to study the content.
Other Features of SkilledUp:
- If you want your course to be listed on SkilledUp, then click on “Submit a Course” option. Then provide the link and a few other details about the course and then submit it. SkilledUp will check the course before listing it on the site.
- You can go to “Learning Hubs” section to checkout some featured articles and videos for online learning.
- You can signup and register your email address to subscribe for the newsletters for the topics selected by you.
My take on SkilledUp:
Unlike most of other educational search engines, SkilledUp not only searches for courses, but also searches for videos and articles related to online study. Wider range of content makes SkilledUp a better option in my opinion. However, I would have really liked it more if it gave an option to store my courses in my account. And of course, they need to fix the bug about “Free Books”.
