There are tons of URL shortening services around that help you shorten long URLs. These shortened URLs come handy while posting in services like Twitter, which let you post just 140 characters in your tweet.
The length of URL shortening services themselves is also a factor in URL shortening, and URL shortening services have now reached an extreme in shortening their names. Most popular is the 5 character URL shortening service bit.ly, but there are some URL shortening services out there that have even shorter names.
URL Shortening service with 3 character name:
j.mp: This is a URL shortening service from bit.ly. The name is easy to remember, and is just 3 characters long.
v.gd: This is another 3 character URL shortening service. Just go to its home page, and provide the URL to be shortened. It calls itself ethical URL shortening service.
3.ly: Another easy to use free 3 character URL shortener.
X.Vu: This URL shortening service lets you specify your own shortened URL. For example, I shortened URL of this website to: http://x.vu/ishan
X.se: This free URL shortening service is in Swedish, and gives a pretty short URL.
l.pr: This free URL shortening service lets you add comments to your shortened URL. However, that would defeat the purpose of URL shortening, as URL would become quite long with your comments.
There are some other 3 character URL shortening services as well, but either they were temporarily down when I tried them, or they have been shut down completely. Above list have some good URL shorteners, with my favorite being j.mp.
