It does support Gmail. But the settings are different than what Gmail tells you. Try 587 on the stmp settings.

For Gmail, you can go with Thunderbird or Zimbra. Both are free.

Installed Pimero just now. It doesn’t support Active Directory. Almost useless for me.

Going to uninstall now.

Thanks,
Balaji.

Hi,

Thanks for a new alternative to outlook. I am currently using Thunderbird knowing that it lacks some features (like calender synchronization from outlook meetings).

Pimero looks good, but the website doesn’t mention anywhere about the LDAP support for contacts. Thunderbird supports LDAP so that I can lookup the contacts from active directory just by typing few characters of either the last name or first name. However, thunderbird has problems in pulling up the resources (like conference rooms) from LDAP which is why I am looking for a replacement. I am not sure Pimero will have all these features that I want. I am just going to try and see.

Thanks,
Balaji.

Hi Sid,

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I been using a free outlook clone called EssentialPim, it seems to provide all that I need but this one looks like it may have more features. I will give it a try and if it’s better then I’m switching. One of the features that I’m looking for in a PIM is the ability to connect to an Exchange Server. I don’t expect the free ones to do that but I have a client that’s looking for a Outlook clone with the ability to connect to Exchange. Microsoft Outlook just cost too much money for me to recommend it purchase but I may not have a choice!!! Thanks.
