AVS Video Recorder is a free video recording software that allows users to transfer and/or capture video from VHS video, DV and WEB cameras and save such data on the hard drive of computers running Windows XP, Vista or 7. Video data is encoded to the compact MPEG-2 format, thus saving space on the hard drive. Users also have the option to save video data in its original AVI format – although more disk space will be used.
This free and useful software is ideal for those who have VHS tapes that he or she wants to transfer to DVD format. Once the data is transferred to the hard disk, users are able to create their own DVD. AVS Video Recorder is easy to navigate and provides clear, concise directions for each interface. Users are also able to, via the ‘Settings’ option, edit any video, uploaded to the program.
Free AVS Video Recorder’s default settings are designed to ensure that video data is reproduced in high quality video format. Users, however, have the option to change the default settings at any time. In the event a user wishes to capture live video via a Web camera, AVS Video Recorder will give the user two encoding choices; either MPEG-2 or MJPEG format. These two choices make it possible to transfer uploaded video data to another computer that has, perhaps, an older operating system.
VHS tapes that are transferred to the computer’s hard disk, via either a camcorder or VCR, will be digitized and saved in the small and lightweight MPEG-2 format. It is important to note here that AVS Video Recorder saves all data in the MPEG-2 format by default, users are able to change these default settings by clicking on the ‘Settings’ menu and the top of the screen. You can also read about streaming video downloaders like ClickConverter, and aTube Catcher.
The reason for the default setting being as MPEG –2 is to keep files small and thus, as mentioned earlier, save space on the hard disk. This free, easy-to-use software is multilingual and is available in the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish and Italian.
At present AVS Video Recorder is only available for the above listed Windows operating systems. Engineers and designers have yet to develop this free software for Mac or Linux operating systems. NB: Windows system requirements may differ depending on the version of Windows running on the computer.
