Compact Word is a free Windows 10 Word reader and editor app which can prove to be a good alternative to Microsoft Word. The app lets you open already existing MS Word files to read and edit as well. You can create a new document as well and save it in Word document format. You have a lot of functions which you find in a Word document.
You can download Compact Word from the Windows 10 store or from the link given at the end of this article. The app opens up to a blank interface, as shown in the screenshot below.
Left side of the window shows you the menu with option to open a new file, open a existing file, save a file, save a file as, print a document, and exit. If you click the open option a browse window will pop up asking you to select the existing Word file that you would like to open. Clicking the new file option will open up a page like the one shown in the screenshot below.
Choose which type of document you need to open from the various choices that you are shown. You can start with a blank document, a letter document, a fax document, a to do list document, etc. Once selected the document will open in front of you, as shown in the screenshot below.
As you can see there are lot of options similar to MS Word. You can change the font style, font size, make bold, italics, underline, highlight color, align, cut, copy, paste, insert hyperlinks, insert image, insert table, make bullet lists, search and replace, etc.
