With the internet becoming more and more mobile these days, owners of smartphones as well as standard computers are looking for such free applications as ZumoCast to stream media from a home computer. ZumoCast allows users to stream or download files, including video, music and other, directly to an iPhone, iPod Touch or an iPad.

This free music streaming utility has continued to grow in popularity; indeed it is considered awesome by many diehard users. Created by the same team that gave the world ZumoDrive, ZumoCast has the same high quality design and engineering. Another similar software we reviewed earlier is MediaRover.

How does ZumoCast work?

ZumoCast connects with the user’s computer allowing access to his or her files and the ability to download them to a portable device. Video needs to be streamed, but unlike other free applications on the market, Free ZumoCast streams the video in real time, so there is no buffering. According to reviews ZumoCast works “extremely” well through wifi with 3G. There was no lagging or choppiness and accessing is a simple.

ZumoCast is a better option that a simple cloud based music library, and cloud based media player.

It is apparent that Free ZumoCast is ideal for people that are busy and never in one place for a long period of time. Using this free application means that users can access their home or office computer on the fly.

Video will trans-code output properly into an “idevice” or other portable media device. Playback is smooth without any noticeable difference. Free ZumoCast is able to play AVI, MP4, DivX, Xvid, RM Flash Video and a few other major formats, without any problem. ZumoCast however, will not, at this time, stream DRM formatted files.

ZumoCast is also able to download video files and music or listen to, while the user is offline. The program will convert the files until the user is ready to access them. In order to take advantage of this free utility, users must first create an account (using an existing account is also possible). This may seem like a slight annoyance, but the benefits far out-weigh a few minutes creating an account.

The interface of ZumoCast is user-friendly with a built-in or embedded player. Files are easily moved, downloaded or renamed. As mentioned above, ZumoCast comes highly recommended from users and is compatible with either PC or Mac computers. A reliable support service, deals with any complaints or bugs users may find with the tool. Some other cloud based options you can also try is Psonar.

Zumocast on my ipod doesn’t download things…everything just says “queued” beside it. And the one time it did start downloading things, everything said “download failed”. Plus it doesn’t play mpg videos (actually, I don’t know if it does or not, the thing is still loading, as it has been for the past 6 minutes). What’s up with this?
