Create a script of the movie dialog, or find one online. Save it as a text file or open an existing subtitle file. It will show up in the subtitle list on the left. Select File >> Open Video to open the video file for which you wish to create subtitle.
In the right lower corner of the window select the captioning mode that you want to use. Two can be selected, Press and hold mode, where you select the subtitle line and you then play the movie in the preview window. The Video part where you want the subtitles to be displayed, you need to click and hold the Apply button for the entire time that you want subtitle on the screen. Second option is the manual captioning, where you need to hit Start and Stop buttons when you want the subtitle to be shown on-screen.
