Today I noticed that Google has launched India version of Google Music, called Google Music India. Unlike Google Music USA that provides an online library to store music, Google Music India is completely different.
Google Music India lets you listen to songs online. You can search for artists, albums and songs, and Google Music will show streamable results for them. Just click on any song to start streaming it.
Google Music India has collaborated with existing Indian online song streaming companies for this: in.com, saavn.com (app), and saregama. It just pulls the results from those websites. When you click on any result to play it, the song is directly played from those websites.
I am really not sure what is the purpose or advantage of Google Music India. It does not have any playlist feature, nor a feature to mark songs as favorites. If I want to play 10 songs from an album, I’ll have to click each of them individually.
Instead, I am better off going to any of these websites directly, and setup my playlist, and listen to songs for free.
Google – what were you thinking??
I really hope Google has a larger vision with Google Music India, and the current version is just a placeholder. If that is not the case, it could soon add to the list of unusable products that Google has started burying lately (remember Buzz?).
