Secret for Android is an app to share your secrets anonymously with a community. Most of us have some unique experiences in our lives or just certain thoughts that are personal. These personal thoughts are kept as secrets and we don’t really want any of friends or family members to get aware of them. Yet, sharing a secret is one of the greatest pleasures that we humans enjoy.
Secret for Android is exactly the app you need to do that.
Once you Download Secret for Android, it presents a sign-up page wherein you can also create your account with Facebook. Don’t worry though — the app won’t share your activity on your Facebook profile. After you sign in, you will be given a list of all your friends who already use Secret. And otherwise you can view secrets shared by other users in a stream. There are options to comment on the shared Secrets or just like them if you wish, by tapping the heart icon or swiping from the left. To share a secret, you just need to tap on the ‘Compose’ icon on top right corner of the screen.
Your friends’ updates appear in a different stream – separate from the Explore menu which shows you the most popular or trending secrets. Tapping on each secret will open it up and show all the comments. Oh, and did you notice that even the comments don’t show a name or anything about the user? Yes, the developers have taken care of the fact that this app has to respect your anonymity. And since the users are anonymous, there is high probability of some users crossing the line and sharing sensitive content – it’s for that reason only that flagging a comment can be done from the same menu where you can share it or subscribe to the user.
One thing to note here is the fact that the app offers no ‘Settings’ menu whatsoever. Hence, you simply can’t customize your app experience or anything related to your account since your profile isn’t visible to anyone! Even if your friends are there on Secret, you won’t be able to exactly tell which friend shared a particular secret.
Verdict
I didn’t experience any bugs on any of the devices that I tested it on. Except that the image-uploads took a lot of time and the loading was slow quite often. This is an app which contradicts itself in places– much like our own tendency. It’ll give you the guilty pleasure of ‘sharing a secret’, and yet not letting anyone know about it! Is there a secret that has been running amok your mind trying to break loose? Well, Secret for Android is one app you need to try before spilling the beans..
