This tutorial explains how to rename a window in Microsoft Edge. Name Window is the name of the new feature that has been introduced in Microsoft Edge that allows you to set a custom name to any opened window. It adds a right click menu in Edge and you can use that to rename the current Edge window. However, this feature is not enabled by default and I don’t know when it will be available to the public. But here I will walk you through the steps to enable Name Window feature and use it.
If you often work with multiple browser windows then you may have noticed that the window name is assigned based on the current active tab. Sometimes this can get confusing and in order to categorize the tabs for work, you can rename windows. There are some third party extension to do that, but you can now do it with a built-in feature. How to rename a Window in Microsoft Edge?
If you want to try Name Windows feature in Edge then you can enable it in the Canary build. To do that, you download the latest canary build of Microsoft Edge from Edge Insiders and then install it. Next, you right-click on its Start menu icon and open the location shortcut file. The following screenshot shows how to do that.
Now, you just right-click on the shortcut file and open Properties. Next, you navigate to the Target field and then simply add the following parameters at the end of the execution command. Make sure to add a space before pasting these entire CLI parameters.
Now, you just hit apply and then relaunch Edge Canary and you will find the Name Windows option in More Tools menu of Edge. You can see that below. You can invoke “Name Window” option in any opened window and then set a custom name. This is as simple as that. You again rename any opened window and any number of time.

The whole process is very simple and straightforward, and you just need to enable it once in order to have access to this feature. Also, if you later decide to disable it then you can turn it off and to do that, you just remove the CLI parameters that we added above.
