As you land into this app for the first time, you would be asked by the app whether it can use your location. Allow it, and the app will start. Now, let me tell you about the main intended functions of the app:
Search
In the search functionality of the app, you can specify any place, and the app will locate it, and show to you the location.
As you find the place you were searching for, you will get options to get the direction between that place and some other place, and the option to find nearby places will appear there. These options are explained below:
Directions
In the Directions option, you can find the direction between two places, one of the place being the one you initially searched for. As you use this option, the app will open up the map, and will show you the directions to reach one place from another.
In the panel that is shown on the right side of the app, the paths will be shown. Choose any of the path, and the app will show you the directions for that route.
You can print, share, or can add these maps to your favorite.
To share the directions with others over the Internet using the app, you have to make use of the option that is available there.

Use the local option to find places of interest that are nearby. Places like Hotels, Parking, Shop, Banks, and others.

My Verdict
According to my experience with the app, this is a good Windows 8 Map app. It provides good quality 3D effects for any place. In addition to that, there is an option to share maps and directions between two places. All in all, a decent app, Bing Maps Preview deserves a try for sure.
