OpenFarm is a simple and free website that helps you to learn Farming and Gardening through the process of sharing of knowledge. It assists you in growing a wide variety of crops, plants and more in your yard, windowsill, greenhouse or anywhere you desire. The focus of the project is the creation of Growing Guides that aid you to grow and care for your crop in all its life stages.
Each Growing Guide is based on precise environmental conditions and cultivating practices that are compatible with your gardens and other circumstances that help you to decide what is the ideal method for you to grow something. You can imagine these guides to be the recipes for amazing plants in your garden or any other location.
Working:
1. Click on this link to navigate to OpenFarm. Scroll down the page and choose a crop that you wish to grow from the Community Favorites section.
2. This will navigate you to the Growing Guide for the chosen crop. The left side of the page gives you details about the crop / plant such as Binomial name, Taxon, Sun requirements, Sowing method and more.
3. The Guides that have been contributed by Community Members are available on the right side of the page. Click on any guide to open it and you will be able to go through all the sections of the guide such as Overview, Basic needs, Life stages and more.
4. You can Print the guide or Share it on social media or by emails by clicking on the corresponding buttons at the top right of the page.
5. If you wish to create your own Growing Guide, click on the link ‘Make your own’ and input all the required details including Basics of the crop, Timelines, various Stages and more.
Since OpenFarm is a new website and a work under progress, you will find that most of the Growing Guides are incomplete and do not give any detailed information.
