AVG LiveKive is a free online backup and storage service from AVG (makers of free AVG antivirus). This service gives you 5GB of free online backup space for 1 year, and lets you keep data in sync among multiple computers. You can backup as many folders from your computer as you want, and setup your own backup schedule.
AVG LiveKive has been released in beta currently, and is being called “Airspace” (not sure why not just call it AVG LiveKive beta). It works on Windows PCs, and lets you sync multiple computers to same account.
AVG LiveKive comes with a desktop client, that lets you easily select folders that you want to backup, computers that you want to sync, setup backup schedule, share files with other AVG LiveKive users, and more. The interface of AVG LiveKive desktop client is quite intuitive.
AVG LiveKive sounds a lot like Dropbox, but Dropbox definitely beats AVG hands down (some people might claim that Dropbox provides just 2 GB free space; but there are actually way to get extra Dropbox space for free). One of the main feature I found missing is compatibility with other OS. Dropbox works with Windows, Mac, and Linux; while AVG LiveKive works with Windows only. Apart from that, Dropbox provides real time backup; I was not able to find this option in AVG LiveKive. Also, AVG is mum on whether the 5GB free storage space offer will be extended after 1 year or not.
Nevertheless, AVG LiveKive is another worthy Dropbox alternative that is worth checking out. Additional free space is definitely a plus. May be, use it in addition to Dropbox, for more scheduled one off backups, and keep using Dropbox for backing up regular files?
