GroupMail Free is email marketing software where you can create emails and send them to your email newsletter lists to keep your readers informed about new services, products and sales that your business has.
The default window of GroupMail offers everything that you will need right there from the home page. Before you can start sending emails you first have to configure GroupMail with your email account and also you’re gonna have to create groups and import your newsletter lists in them. Both the groups configuration options and the account addition are offered to you in a wizard when you first start the program:
If you don’t want to configure basic settings via the wizard you can do that later on in the program by clicking on the Create a New Group option and the Accounts options located under Tools. We’re gonna start with accounts, they are the most important thing after all.
How to set up an email account in GroupMail
Before we start with the basic instructions of how you can add email accounts in GroupMail, you first have to choose which email service to use. Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo are pretty much out of the question because they have daily limits as to how many emails can be sent, and emails that you send will probably end up in the spam folders of the people who you’re trying to reach.
It’s best that you pay for a custom email hosting, ask your website host if you could arrange email hosting with them and what kind of limitations you would have, create an email account under your domain name and then add it to GroupMail. When you click Accounts you will be presented with a window where you need to click New and you’ll get this window:
Enter your name, email and email password, program will automatically look for your server settings and adjust POP and SMTP settings. If it doesn’t there’s always the Manual Setup at the bottom.

How to create a new group and import a newsletter list
Click on Create new group and you will be presented with a new group creation wizard. Choose a group type, where data is stored locally or online, contact information formatting and other minor group settings, and once you’re finished you will see this:
All that’s left now is to start adding recipients, one by one, or you can import lists by going to the Actions and then Import. Supported file formats for list imports are:
- .TXT
- .CSV
Paid versions and conclusions
Next to the free version there are also paid versions of GroupMail which are aimed at larger companies and stores, which have additional features and offer more possibilities to the user. GroupMail Free is more than enough for small time home users, and you should only consider switching to paid version once your email marketing campaigns become successful and you start making money.
With GroupMail Free you get 12 different email marketing templates, you can export lists. Drawback is the fact that there’s a limitation of sending 100 email at a time. But all this is more than enough for beginners and when you outgrow basic features, switch to the paid versions.
