SpaceDrop is a free peer to peer Text and File exchanging web application that enables you to transfer files between any devices. It uses WebRTC for secure file transfer which means that your files are directly transferred from one device to another without being uploaded on any server.
Transferring files between different devices often requires the same app to be installed on both the devices. Another way of doing this is to find a suitable cloud drive like Google Drive or Dropbox, upload the files to the cloud and download them from the other device. This is precisely where SpaceDrop offers a very simple and easy alternative with an effective text and file sharing facility and a neat and user-friendly interface without installing any third party applications or using cloud accounts.
Working:
1. Click on this link to navigate to SpaceDrop. You do not require to register or create a free account to use this service.
2. Enter the name of a Space that you wish to create and set a Password for it. This space serves as the container that will store your Files and Text.
3. To upload plain text, simply click on the ‘Paste Text’ button at the bottom, type the text and click on ‘Ok’. The text will be uploaded to your Space.
4. To upload any files to your Space, click on ‘Drop files’, choose the files from your local system, and click on ‘Open’ to upload them. The uploaded files will be visible in your Space.
5. Navigate to SpaceDrop from another device and join the Space that you created above using the same name and password. You will be able to see all the pasted text and files that you have uploaded.
6. You can click on the ‘Copy’ icon to copy the text to your clipboard or the ‘Download’ icon to download the text in the form of a plain text file.
7. To download any files, click on the ‘Download’ icon towards the right of each filename.
