Morphine is a free Chrome extension to block distracting websites until you work for some time. This is a unique and fantastic feature because you have to earn time to access the websites added to the blocked list. For example, if you have set the timer for 10 minutes, then after 10 minutes, it gives you one minute as the bonus. That simply means that you can access any website available in the blocked list only for one minute. When the time is over, it will automatically block those websites again.
It comes with the feature to add websites to blocked list and whitelist. Also, you can set the timer for 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, etc. The good thing is that the more the timer, the more bonus time can be set by you. However, there is also a limit to set the bonus time. For example, if you have set the timer to block websites for 15 minutes, then maximum bonus time you can earn to access websites is 3 minutes.
The screenshot above shows the time left to enjoy using the site you have added to the blocked list. When the time is over, you will be able to see if any of the balance time is left to use the site again or not.
Block Distracting Websites Until You Work for Some Time Using This Chrome Extension:
This Chrome extension is very easy to configure and use. You can use this link to install this extension. After installation, its Options page will open automatically in a new tab. You can also right-click the extension icon and click on Options.
Now, you need to configure the settings. There are only four options to set:
- Add sites to the blocked list. One site in one line only.
- Add sites to the whitelist. If you won’t add sites to this list, you can still access sites other than the blocked sites.
- Set the time interval to block the websites. Time can be set for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, or 60 minutes.
- Set the size per charge (or balance time). The balance time that you will earn depends on the time interval set by you. The maximum balance time for 60 minutes time interval is 12 minutes.
That’s it! Now try to access site added to the blocked list. You won’t be able to access that site. When the time interval will over, you will get the bonus time. Use that time carefully. This process repeats automatically.
You can also click extension icon or access blocked website to check if you have any balance time left or not.
The Verdict:
This Chrome extension can be very effective to improve productivity if you easily get distracted from social sites. Where other extensions can restrict your access to sites for the specified time only, this extension takes this process a step ahead. However, there are a few points that need to be considered. You can remove any website from the blocked list and then access it easily. There is no password protection to prevent accessing Options. Still, if you really want to focus on the work and be productive, then probably you won’t try to do anything like that.
