Here is a very simple, portable, and free download manager that comes with multi-thread support. It is named as ‘Turbo Download Manager‘. Although many useful download manager software are already available, but it has a unique feature that makes it stand apart from the crowd.
You can add mirror links for any file that you want to download. After inserting the mirror links, the software checks for all those links with the original link. If the links have the same size file as original, then it uses those mirrors as threads. It directly results in fast downloading.
Apart from this, you can bulk download multiple files as well as set the number of threads for each individual file. Maximum 10 threads can be set for a single file. You can also pause and resume any download, which is beneficial when you have to continue download the next time.
In the screenshot visible above, you can see the multiple files in download process and multiple threads associated with each individual download.
Note: It is currently in beta version, but worked well for me. Also, the software is available for many other platforms (Mac, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Linux and Android), which is its great advantage over other download managers. However, its browser extensions can’t help you directly fetch the URL of an online file and start the download on its interface. The browser extensions work separately.
Using This Portable and Free Download Manager:
Here is the homepage link of this software. Grab its zip file, extract it, and run the portable application. It has a very simple interface where a “+” button is available.
Use that button and a pop-up will open. Using that pop-up, you can insert the URL of the file that you want to download. Apart from that, you can also add mirror URLs using the “+” button available on that pop-up. The number of threads (up to 10), referring link (optional), download location, and other optional things can also be set by you. When you have done everything, click on Add as a new Job button.
It will start fetching the info related to the file and then start the download process. If the mirror URLs are matched with the original URL, then those URLs will be used as threads. The number of set threads will also visible that will help increase the download speed.
In a similar way, you can add more files that you want to download.
The Verdict:
Turbo Download Manager is not so advanced but has some great features that you will like for sure. Its feature to use mirror links as threads is simply great. It is surely a useful software for those looking for an easy to use download manager software available for multiple platforms.
