Actor Messenger is a free secure messenger with features like audio call, video call, file sharing, and more. That means apart from simple text messaging, you can also use it for voice chat, video chat, and share files (like photos, videos, GIFs, documents, etc.) with your friends. For messaging, it provides end-to-end encryption. This means the conversation between you and your friend will only be visible to the two of you. To make your conversations more secure, it doesn’t collect your data and also protects them from web snoopers. Apart from messaging with single users, you can also create “Groups” to invite your entire group of friends for conversation.
Unlike many other instant messengers, Actor Messenger comes with the options to have voice chat as well as seamless video conversations. You can also make your normal text messages more interesting by sending voice notes, emojis, and stickers. The best part about Actor Messenger is that it is completely free to use and is available for your browser, desktop (Windows PC, Mac, and Linux), iPhone, and Android.
How to Use Actor Messenger for Text Messages, File Sharing, Audio Calls, and Video Calls:
To demonstrate this free secure messenger, I will use the Web version of it in this post. Now, to setup your Actor Messenger account simply visit the homepage and register by entering your name, email, and password. As soon as you’re in, the “Messenger” window will appear where you’ll see two different sections named, Groups, and Direct Messages on the left panel.
Now, if you would like to start a chat with any of your friends, then simply click the “+” button associated with the section “Direct Messages”. After that, you can either enter the username, email id, or phone number of your friends to invite them for a chat. In the same manner, if you want to start a conversation with a group of friends, then you can create a new group by clicking on the “+” button associated with the “Groups” section. Then you can invite others to the group and start messaging.
After you start a conversation with anyone or a group, you’ll be able to send text messages, share files, make audio calls, and also make video calls. So, let us see what we can do with Actor Messenger.
Text Messages:
Using Actor Messenger, you can easily send text messages to your friends or groups. Apart from sending simple text messages, you can also send emojis and stickers to make the conversations more interesting.
You can use the message input field to type and send text messages and click on the “Emoji” icon to send emojis and stickers. In addition to that, you can also send voice notes by clicking on the “Record” icon adjacent to the “Emoji” icon at the bottom of the messenger.
File Sharing:
At the bottom of the message input field, there you’ll see an option named, “Attachment” using which you will be able to share various files like images, videos, GIFs, documents, etc.
Audio Calls:
Another interesting feature of Actor Messenger is that you can make audio calls to your friends or group members during a conversation. For this, simply click on the “Call” button at the top of the messenger.
As soon as you do that, the user to whom you’ve make the call will receive a call which he can either reject or accept. After the user accepts your audio call, you can simply start taliking with the user along with sending text messages simultaneously.
Video Calls:
Similar to audio calls, Actor Messenger also allows you to make video calls with others. However, while testing the web application and desktop client of Actor Messenger, I was unable to make video calls. This might be due to some settings which I am missing to configure. But, the video calls worked fine on my Android phone and iPhone.
If you’re more into PC software, then you can go ahead and download the desktop client of Actor Messenger. The interface of the desktop client is quite similar to that of the web application.
Using the desktop client you’ll be able to do the following things:
- send text messages, stickers, emojis, and voice notes.
- share files like photos, videos, etc.
- make audio calls.
- make video calls (which I couldn’t make to work).
- create groups for group chat, and more.
All these features are same in the Actor Messenger app for Android. The app interface is very intuitive and it won’t be a difficult task for you to get started with the app.
Using the Android app you can do the following things:
- send text messages, voice notes, emojis, and stickers.
- make audio and video calls (which worked fine).
- share file like GIFs, images, videos, etc.
- one-on-one chat and group chat, and more.
Similar to Android, the iPhone app of Actor Messenger is also same in term of features. Using the iPhone app will be a cakewalk for you as the user interface is simple and easy to understand.
You can perform the following things using the iPhone app:
- send text messages with emojis, audio notes, and stickers.
- make audio and video calls with ease.
- share different types of files such as videos, documents, photos, etc.
- individual chat and group chat, and more.
My Final Verdict:
Actor Messenger is a pretty interesting messenger which you can use on any device like Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, Android, and even on your browser. Personally, I like this messenger as it promises security of your data and also offers some additional features like audio calls, video calls, file sharing, etc. If you’re looking for a feature rich messenger, then you can start using Actor Messenger right away.
