This tutorial explains how to download all photos and videos from Google Photos.
It is very easy to download a particular album from Google Photos. You just need to access an album and then click on ‘More’ icon (three vertical dots) to download all items present in that album. However, when you need to download all albums (including photos and videos sent on Hangouts) from Google Photos, there is no such option. Still, it is possible to manually download everything from Google Photos. This tutorial covers all those steps that will help you do the same.
In the screenshot visible below, you can see all the albums downloaded by me from Google Photos. The albums are packed in a zip file. You need to extract that zip file to access all your albums. A JSON file is also downloaded for each individual photo.

How To Download All Photos and Videos from Google Photos?
Step 1: Login to your Google account → Click on the Person icon → My Account.
Step 2: In ‘My Account’ page, you will find multiple sections. You need to click on “Control your content” option available in ‘Personal info & privacy’ section.
Step 3: Now you need to select data that you want to include for downloading. By default, all type of data (Calendar, Google Drive, Google+ Circles, etc.) is selected. You need to uncheck all using Select none option and then select Google Photos option.
Now scroll down the page and click on Next button. Before doing this, you can also uncheck albums that you don’t want to download.
Step 4: In this step, you need to select the type of archive that will be downloaded. ZIP, TGZ, and TBZ formats are available. Select any format and click Create archive button.
You also have the options to send download link to your email, add to OneDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
Step 5: It will start preparing your archive that will contain all albums. After that, you can download that archive.
The download link remains valid for 7 days. So, you will have sufficient time to download all photos and videos from Google Photos.
The Verdict:
There must be free and paid tools to download photos and videos from Google Photos, but if you don’t want to use such tools, then this manual method is really useful. Try it and backup all your photos and videos.
