NatureTap is a free iPhone education app which helps you to learn about the different species like birds, spiders, insects, etc. You can check detailed information about any species using the app. The app has included audio clips of voice of birds so that you can know how each bird speaks.
All the species are also divided according to their color and shape for better searching. You can also play different games to test your skills about your knowledge of these species. The game syncs with your Game Center profile.
You can also check the detailed info for mammals, wildflower, reptiles, and amphibians; but they have to be purchased separately via in-app purchase.
Learning About Different Species Using This iPhone Education App:
You can get the NatureTap education app either by searching on the iTunes App Store or by clicking on the link given at the end of this review. The app requires you to register with it before you can use it. The registration can be done easily, either by using your Facebook account or simply filling a registration form within the app.
When you have registered, the app rewards you by giving Spiders and Insects pack for free and the app’s home screen will display the birds’ section.
You can observe a Green frog shape at the right side of the screen from the screenshot. It works like a main menu for you, using which you can choose whether you want to learn about Birds or Spiders and Insects.
On the app’s home screen, all the birds’ photos are arranged in the form of tiles which can be tapped to see detailed information about them. The detailed information about any bird includes its name, species family, size, info about its habitat and where it is found, voice description, and a map representation of the country where it is found. If you want to listen to the voice of the bird or share the info about it, then you can also do it from the same screen. The info can be shared via Facebook, Twitter, and email.
Note: The app has voice option only for birds’ category.
There are two options at the bottom of the screen: Shape and Color. You can use these options to filter the list of birds according to the criteria specified by you. Some of the sub-categories that Shape option includes are: Duck-like birds, Hawk-like birds, Long-leged Waders, Owls, Perching Birds, etc.
Playing Game In This iPhone Education App:
Now, I guess you might have learned something about different species. So, its time to test whatever you have learned by playing some entertaining games. You can go to games by tapping on the jigsaw puzzle like icon at the top right corner of the app. You can play 3 games: Sound Game, Photo Quiz, and Puzzles. The Sound Game can only be played while in Birds’ section.
- Sound Game: In this game, the app shows you 4 pictures at random with a voice-over. You have to recognize the bird who has the voice similar to the played one. You are awarded 1 point for each right answer and zero points for wrong one. There are 3 lives available after which the game gets over.
