Using this Freeware to Maintain Personal Health Record:
The CGS MedRec freeware needs to be installed on your PC just like any other normal Windows software. When you will launch the freeware, it will ask you whether you want to open the preset database or create a new one. I will start this review with the steps to create a new database.
The first step towards creating a new database is to add a new user. A user can by anyone (you, your family member, any pet, etc.) whose health record you want to maintain. You have to enter the name and choose the password (optional).
On adding the user, the next step is to add a topic. A topic is basically the category which you will use to differentiate between aspect of your health record like the medical conditions, meetings, medicines, etc.. You can create groups as many as you like.
When you have gone through these steps and added a few more details, you will see the interface as shown in the screenshot below. On the left side, you will see all the topics added by you and when you will click on them, then you will see the details on the right side.
You can also double-click on any of the details on the right side to get a pop-up. It will show you few more details.
At the top, you will see a Green colored home icon. On clicking it, you will see the interface shown below. There are 4 options: Manage Your Database, Manage Users, Search, View/Print Overviews.
- Manage Your Database: Use this option to open database, check space usage, export/import database, and open the physical storage location of the database.
- Manage Users: Use it to add/delete users and to change the name/password for existing users.
- Search: Search anything within the currently opened database.
- View/Print Overviews: Use it to view and print any of the database entries.
