Reverb is a free iPhone app for reading the news that you are interested in. Everyone would agree that staying updated with news on happenings around the world is something we all try to do. But with so many things happening around, one doesn’t know where to start or for that matter what to look for. With our hectic schedule we try to accomodate whatever reading we can do, which usually ends with reading gossip about movies. Atleast, that is what I end up doing.
Reverb is a perfect app for people like me, because when it comes to reading news, I don’t know what to look for. So what this app does is it provides you a “Word Wall” with all the top news like seen in the screenshot below. Basically, the Word Wall is made up of a few words from the top news and when you select a particular word, it will show you all the news realted to that word. For example, you choose the word “Memorial Day” from the Word Wall, then the app will show you all the top news articles related to Memorial Day.
This is what I liked the most about the app, you can just go through this word wall and pick news which you want to read. As you pick topics and read from the wall, the app will adapt to your interests and show you the news stories which matter to you. You will have to swipe up and down to scroll through the Word wall and swipe right and left go to the next page. Other pages in the app includes My news, Social news, My profile.
Lets start with the My profile tab which allows you to sign in to the app using your Facebook or Twitter account, else you can use your email address to sign in. Signing in to the app is optional, but it is recommended to do so, as this will enable you to add news to favorites list, or share them with your friends.
My News tab displays news stories which interest you. You can add your interests on this page, or choose from the many given topics on the page like gaming, books, sports, fitness, etc.
Social news tab is where updates from your Facebook and Twitter friends are shown. Any news stories or updates being shared by your friends on Facebook or Twitter will be shown here. That is in case you have added these accounts to this app. If you are interested in sharing news stories then you can also look at Buzzfeed for iphone which provides sharing of news on all your social networking accounts.
Sharing a news story with your friends is also easy with this app. Just click the sharing button at the bottom of the screen and select if you want to share it via Facebook, Twitter or email. You also get to view the news stories in 2 viewing modes: the first one is the Word Wall view and the other is the headlines with snapshots view. Both of these views are shown below:
Reverb app is a very handy app to read only the news that you are interested in. It will also come in handy when you don’t know what news you are looking for as it will list all the top news of the day on its Word Wall for you to choose from.
If a magazine style news layout appeals to your eyes then you can try the ever popular Flipboard for this purpose.
