OpenResume is a free open-source resume builder and parser. It can take an already ready-made resume from you and extract information from it to create a new resume. It can generate an ATS friendly resume for you in PDF format that you can use to send to recruiters. It designs a beautiful custom resume for you and is completely open source. There is online version available, but you can also self-host it on your own server.
We have covered many resumes builder such as WYSIWYG resume builder and even resume builder software. But here this OpenResume a bit different. It generates a modern looking simple yet effective resume. However, for now a little downside is that it only has 1 template now. And maybe the more templates will be added in the later updates. For now, it can only detect the various sections from the existing resume and then you can edit it and render the PDF.
Free Open Source Resume Builder and Parser: OpenResume
If you know how to install and setup self-hosted apps then you can just grab the source code of OpenResume here. Follow the installation instructions and then you are all good to go. Or you can use the hosted website and use that instead. On the main UI, you simply start by uploading an existing resume.
It will just take a couple of seconds and then will show you all the information that it has extracted. In the left sidebar, you can see all the information and you can add more as well. Other than this, it also generates the preview of the new resume.
So, add your sections and then see the preview. Once you are done, you can simply click the download button to download the final resume in PDF format. The process is simple and straightforward.
If you have designed a resume before, then OpenResume follows a similar process. The only difference here is that instead of creating a resume from scratch, you can improve the existing ones. This makes this tool take less time in creating/building a good-looking professional resume.
Closing thoughts:
There are not so many free resume builders out there, so I am happy to finally see a free and open-source tool that ids actually free as in freedom. I liked the fact that it lets you customize the resume page layout and colors. If you have an existing resume, then you can make that ATS friendly in just a few seconds.
