GeoGuessr is a free online geographic quiz in which you have to guess locations on earth, by seeing images on map. This game will show you 3D Google Street View images of random places, and you have to find those places on the map. Based on how accurately you are able to guess the place, you win points.
You’ll fall in love with this game if you love trotting around the world or have an affinity for geography. The game offers two playable modes: Single mode and the Challenge mode. The challenge mode is played with one or more friends. You can also set it to be a time trial where you rush against the clock to complete the quiz.
Since the images are cued from Google Street View, you’ll be able to zoom in and out of the vicinity in addition to moving around. Use these to find clues from road signs, banners, environment, etc. Using the clues, place your best guess on the map.

How to Guess Places on Maps using this Game
Make sure you sign in GeoGuessr to track your score. Select the single player challenge on the main page to start the single player quiz. You’ll go through a total of 5 rounds. You can move around easily with your mouse and the navigational tools provided on the left. Once you figure out where you are on the globe, leave a waypoint on the map at the bottom and click Make Guess under it to continue. GeoGuessr will score you based on the distance of your waypoint from actual location of the picture.
How to Get a Better Score in GeoGuessr
As I explained before, try to look for clues in your surroundings. Analyze the language on posters, banners, road signs, etc. The type of environment you perceive in the picture will also help you in determining the location. For example, I noticed a road sign in Portuguese and a tropical environment in one of the quizzes. My mind immediately agreed with Brazil since these two clues concur to that country.
Look how close I was to the actual location. A deviation of only 271.8 miles!
Other playable features of GeoGuessr
This free online geographic quiz gives you more playable modes. You can select the challenge mode to challenge your friends for a quiz. You and the challenged friends will be given the same set of locations. The one who deviates the least from the actual locations in their answer will win the challenge.

Final Words
GeoGuessr is a simple and educational game where the more you know about the world, the better you are. I can’t think of a negative aspect of this game except for the navigational problems on the world map. It wasn’t easy to scroll around the world map without the dragging option, but still I overcame it with zooming in and out of the map. Also, sometimes the images it showed were too generic (like, just an empty road), which made it quite hard to guess. In those cases, I had to scroll a lot on the map to find any intelligent clue. I hope they can have some sort of curated images that give at least a bit of hint, that could be a good starting point. I award this free online geographic quiz with 4.5 stars.
