Yesterday I wrote an article about how to get temporary email address with Hotmail. While researching for that article, I came across another feature of Hotmail that Microsoft launched last November. Hotmail now lets you get a Hotmail account using any other email address. You do not even need to get a Hotmail email address to get a Hotmail account. And if that email address also supports POP access, then Hotmail can fetch all the email from that email address, and show in your Hotmail account.
Now while creating a Hotmail account, you can provide any other email address as a sign-in address. This is really useful as people already have email addresses, and might not want to get a new Hotmail email address just use some of the features of Hotmail. In that case, you can use existing email address with Hotmail.
For example, if you have a Gmail address, then you can use that to get a new Hotmail account, and also receive access email from Gmail in Hotmail. You can even reply to that email right from Hotmail itself, and it will show up as it was sent from Gmail.

This feature lets you use Hotmail a free email client, with the advantage that it is completely web-based, and totally free. You can even configure multiple email addresses in Hotmail, and check email of all of them from one Hotmail account.
This feature is especially useful if you have an email address for your own domain, (like: [email protected]). So, instead of configuring that email address with an email client, you can now configure that with Hotmail.
