In this list, we talk about 5 free cloud storage apps for Windows 8. These apps can really help you out when you have to carry around a large amount of data but unfortunately you don’t have a pen drive or a portable hard drive lying around. When such situations arise, the apps in our list today can certainly help you out. All you need is a free account on these cloud storage services, and you get gigabytes of storage for absolutely free. Sounds pretty cool, right?
If you are just as excited as me already, you are going to love the apps in today’s list. So without further ado, let’s find about more about these apps!
1. Dropbox
Dropbox is the official app of Dropbox, Inc. for Windows 8. It’s absolutely free, and making an account on Dropbox doesn’t cost a penny either! When you launch this app, you will be asked to either sign up or sign in to your Dropbox account. When you login successfully, you can access easy controls to upload files of a vast multitude of formats like videos, music, images, documents etc. The app also allows you to download the files already on your Dropbox account to your Windows 8 PC, and this makes for a really cool feature. The app is designed in a Metro styled interface, and what I really like about this app is that it lets you preview the content before you actually choose to download it from your account. You can easily upload files via the control bar of the app, and the integrated image viewer allows you to easily preview image files. You can also choose to share the images or other documents through the Windows 8 share charm (Win+H) and share the selected file using the built in sharing options. This is a must have app!

2. Bitcasa
Bitcasa is a free Windows 8 cloud storage app. It comes with 20GB free space. This app also works in the same manner as any other cloud storage app. When you launch the app, you will be presented with an interface that allows you to sign up or login to your Bitcasa account. If you don’t have a Bitcasa account yet, you can easily sign up for one from within the app itself, and you can use easy sign up options like choosing to sign up with Facebook or Google Plus. When logged in, the app shows you your cloud storage information in a neat and tiled interface that is pleasing to the eye. The app has an integrated video player that can easily play back music and video files of common formats directly from within the app. You can easily upload files using the control bar in the app.

3. SugarSync
SugarSync is a free Windows 8 cloud storage app with a twist. This app not only allows you to upload and download your files to and from the cloud, but it also allows you to sync these documents that you have uploaded across your smartphones, tablets and what not. The app provides you with 5 GB of free storage, and is absolutely free for the Windows 8 platform. The app has a metro styled tiled interface which makes it look more native to the Windows 8 ecosystem. The app is a wonderful tool for backing up your files. When you launch the app, you will be asked to either log in or sign up for a SugarSync account. Once that’s done, you can start uploading the files on your PC or downloading the files from the cloud to your PC through the app’s control bar. A neat feature of this app is that it also allows other users on SugarSync to share their files with you, thereby negating the need of email for sharing files via attachments! Pretty cool, right?

4. Cumulo
Cumulo works a bit differently than the apps I talked about above. This app is not an independent cloud storage service, rather, it allows you to link multiple cloud services into one app. Currently it supports Dropbox, SkyDrive, SugarSync, Google Drive and Box. When you launch the app, you will be asked to link these services to the Cumulo app. Once that’s done, the app allows you to upload your files to multiple accounts at once. The app has a neat tiled interface which allows you to easily upload and download files from the cloud using the control bar. To download a file, simply right click on a file and select the Download button from the control bar. Similar procedure is to be followed for uploading a file. Pretty easy, if you ask me!

5. Box
Box is another free cloud storage app for Windows 8 devices. This app allows you to easily login and upload or download files to or from your Box account. The app allows you to do so through a control bar which can be brought up to the screen by right clicking on the screen. This app makes for a handy replacement of the box website, as you don’t have to visit it and log in to it every time you have to upload or download a file to your box account anymore! The app also has an inbuilt preview option which allows you to preview the files that are uploaded. This supports previewing of image files. You can interact with an uploaded file by right clicking on it and selecting an appropriate option from the control bar at the bottom of the screen.
