Morpholio Trace is a free tracing paper app for iPhone to trace, sketch, markup, and annotate over images. If you’re an artist, a photographer, designer, or an architect, then this app is definitely for you. You can easily import an image from the camera roll, Dropbox, Morpholio library, or capture one using the built-in camera. Let’s say you don’t want to trace over images, then simply proceed with the blank tracing paper and start sketching designs. Unlike other apps (such as Paper and Pinpoint, which also let you annotate over images), this one allows marking up on drawings, images, blank tracing paper, etc.
Now, let us talk about the features of “Morpholio Trace”. To trace over images, you can use a pencil or brush with different colors, sizes, and line types. The tracing paper comes with 3 different colors: Yellow, White, and Black. It lets you add multiple layers over an image or blank tracing paper in order to minimize mistakes or hassle. You can also adjust the opacity of the tracing paper, apply effects (like Graphite, Pen, Ink, Poche, Crosshatch, etc), and choose different frames (like Desk, Gallery, Book, etc). When you’re done with tracing over images, you can either save them to your camera roll or share via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Email.
Note: To use additional features like Scales, Rulers, Stencils, Layer Manager, etc., you have to purchase the premium version of this app.
How to Trace Over Images on iPhone:
Step 1: As soon as you open the app, you will see 3 different tabs at the bottom of the screen. The first tab is the tracing tab where you can trace over images, blank tracing papers, etc. At the top of the screen, there will be the drawing tools like pencil, brush, eraser, undo, size & color changer, and line types.
Step 2: You can either trace over the blank tracing paper or over an image. To start tracing, all you have to do is select the pencil or brush, choose the color, select size, and choose the line types. In the free version, it offers 3 different colors, single pencil/brush/eraser, and 4 different sizes/line types.
Step 3: The second tab is the trace manager tab, where you will be able to change tracing paper opacity, choose the paper color, add multiple paper layers, import or capture photos, delete layers, and proceed to save or share.
Step 4: You can import images from camera roll, Dropbox, Morpholio library, or capture photos using the built-in camera. After selecting an image, simply go to the tracing tab and start annotating or marking up.
Step 5: When you’re done with tracing, select the arrow icon at the top of the trace manager tab to apply effects, add frames, save & share tracing papers. It provides 11 photo effects and 6 different frames.
My Final Verdict:
Morpholio Trace is definitely one of the best tracing paper apps for iPhone to trace over images. Apart from that, it also allows you to use a blank tracing paper to create designs, graphs, etc. Personally, I like this app because it makes annotating over images so much easier and interesting.
