MyPaint is a free open source painting program and free graphics tool that is useful for graphic designers and anyone else with a flair for design and image editing in general. Many of the people who fall into the previous categories do not have the money to buy the vastly expensive Adobe Photoshop or any of the other paid graphics suites.
It is not the only free graphics tool out there. Programs such as Paint.NET and GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) pride themselves on having a similar depth of features to Photoshop and others. These however, suffer from focusing too much on photo manipulation tools, meaning that a specialized free and open source painting program like MyPaint is good for those serious about creating graphics from scratch.

The unlimited canvas offered up by this free and open source painting program is excellent as it allows painters to avoid the havoc of resizing the canvas part way through their working period, which is an awful inconvenience.
Another excellent aspect of this software is the fact that the actual toolbars and interface only appear when you summon them. They usually just sit out of sight so that you have more room to paint on, instead of the screen being cluttered with various panes and toolbars like on some of the competition.

A Worthy Addition?
There is no doubt that MyPaint is a solid free graphics tool and probably at the top of its game as far as the free and open source painting program market goes. However, I don’t think it matches up to the competition such as GIMP and Paint.NET for someone who wants more than just a painting suite.
